How To Stay Warm During Power Outages

Only heat one room – Try to stay in only one room. Choose a room on the South side of the house.  Make sure you allow natural sunlight in as often as possible.   You can close off the room so that only a small area needs to be heated.  Hang blankets or shower curtains in the windows to keep cool air out.  Rugs and blankets can be used on floors that seem cool.

Dress Warmly – your body will keep warm if you dress warmly.  Keep yourself clothed and use blankets to keep your body heat in.  Wear a hat so that warm air doesn’t escape out of your body.

Eat Before You Go To Bed – If you eat before you go to bed, your body will be digesting. This will allow you to stay warmer.

Put Up A Tent – If you are keeping your family in one room, tents can add some heat.  You can pretend you’re camping out.  This closes off the area you need to heat even more.  It also allows you to share body heat.
