New Construction: 5 Electric Service Must Haves

electric service must haves

If you are planning to be involved with the design and construction of your new home, there are lots of decisions to think about as you build. Because you have the ability to go over every detail and design choice, you can make sure things are exactly as you would like them and that specific components of your new home, like your electrical service must haves, are included. While many people overlook the electrical aspects of the home for the flashier home décor choices, like window treatments and countertop choices, it is very important that you think about and discuss your electrical service must haves for your new home. Here are 5 helpful electric service must haves from the experts at Rose Brothers & Sons Inc., that you should consider for your newly constructed home.

Electric Service Must Haves

  1. Outlets, Outlets, Outlets

The most important and convenient thing any home can have is an excess of outlets for you to use. Outlets are critical to a home running smoothly and functioning properly and thus, outlet placement really needs to be thought out. As a rule of thumb, place two outlets on any large wall for all your future needs and place an outlet under every window in your home. If you have a mantle, keep in mind that mantels are hard to run extensions cord to without being obvious, so don’t even leave yourself room to fret and place an outlet on that as well. In the kitchen put outlets on both ends of your kitchen island and under your kitchen cabinets for lighting and utility purposes. In the bathroom, place outlets inside your vanity drawers, underneath your vanity mirror, and at least one to two others in the bathroom for plugging in grooming tools. Other places that are often looked over but will also need outlets are the roof soffits and you will need multiple outdoor outlets. You can never have enough outlets, so make sure to incorporate that in your house plans.

  1. Well Planned Wiring for Lighting

It is crucial to have well-planned wiring in your home. Make sure all of the wiring in your home is compatible with energy saving products and the latest CFL and LED lightbulbs so you can make sure to save yourself money. Also make sure you have extra wiring and a larger than necessary breaker box for any additions in lighting you have in the future.

  1. Pre-Wired Speakers

Running wiring for any and all appliances and electronics in your home to keep wires hidden is best done while the house is being constructed. By doing this while the house is being built you will save money and time in the future while also keeping your house from looking cluttered or messy.

  1. Smart Home System

Smart home systems are money saving and make your home much safer for you and your family. Have your smart home system wired into your home while it is being built so everything in your home can be connected. With a smart home automation system, you can control your home security, your windows, the sound system, even the temperature of your home, all with one simplistic system.

  1. Hard Wired Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector

Installing a hard wired smoke and carbon monoxide detector is one of the safest things you can do for your home. By installing this device with your electrical wiring in your new construction, you ensure that you will never need to change the batteries on your detector ensuring that your device will continue to work and be prepared when you need it most.
