AC Units Can Cause Electrical Problems

electrical problemsThis is the time of year an electrician will start getting calls for electrical problems connected to Air Conditioning.  AC Units will start tripping circuit breakers, dimming lights and sometimes causing partial power outages.

Why Your AC Unit Causes Your Electric to Go Haywire

There are a few common reasons why AC Units can cause problems with your existing electrical wiring or cause your circuit breakers to trip.  It could be that your home is underpowered and doesn’t have enough electricity to handle the AC Unit and all it’s other electrical needs.  Another reason is that your AC Unit may be connected to an overloaded circuit.   Faulty breakers or loose connections inside or outside the circuit breaker panel are also common reasons why your AC Unit may be causing problems.

When To Call Your Electrician For Electrical Problems

Anytime you have problems with your electric is a good time to call your electrician. It takes a skilled technician to fix electricity and to follow the rules and codes of electrical wiring.   If you notice problems with your electricity when you turn your AC Unit on, it’s time to call your electrician for some electrical repair.

Your electrician will be able to tell you a few solutions to the problem you’re having and what you can do about it.  Sometimes circuit breakers are obsolete or need to be overhauled.  If your home is underpowered or your circuit breaker is overloaded, your electrician can give you options to fix your electrical problems.

Things You Can Do to Be Energy Efficient

Use ceiling fans to help cool your house.  They will keep the air circulating and keep you cool.  Turn off the lights when you’re not using them or if you can use sunlight.  This will reduce your electric use and help keep your house cooler.

Switch to LED light bulbs instead of incandescent lights.  They are cheaper to run and they run cooler so you’re not putting off heat into the room.

Consider installing a timer on your thermostat so you can regulate the temperature to stay cooler when you’re home or sleeping.   It doesn’t make much sense to cool your house when you’re not there.

Your electrician is a good person to call if you are having electrical issues that need attention.  He can also help you determine if your house needs an electrical overhaul.  Maybe you don’t need many repairs but your electric bill is sky high.  Your electrician can evaluate your home and give you advice on what you can do to lower your bill.
